Rīgas domes ģerbonis

The Central Election Commission (CVK) on the 7th of July announced the elections to the Riga City Council, which will take place on August 29 this year. The pre-election campaign period in the Riga City Council elections also begins on the day of the announcement of the elections.

On the election day, polling stations will be open from 7.00 to 22.00. Voters will be able to vote in advance on Wednesday, August 26, from 16.00 to 21.00, Thursday, August 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday, Aug. 28, from 12.00 to 20.00.

The rights to participate in Riga City Council elections have citizens of Latvia and other European Union (EU) member states who have reached the age of 18 and have a registered residence in the administrative territory of Riga at least 90 days before the election day, or who own real estate in the administrative territory of Riga.

In connection with the decision taken by the interim administration of Riga Municipality, the location of several polling stations will be changed. You will be able to find out your polling station in the e-service of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs. From the beginning, each person entitled to vote is registered in the polling station, according to the declared place of residence in Riga. From July 30 to August 15, it can be changed to any other station in the e-service of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs or in the institution of declaration of residence in the city of Riga by sending an application by post, e-mail or Latvija.lv. The application must be received by August 15.

If the voter has not been declared in Riga, but owns real estate in the administrative territory of Riga, it will be necessary to  registered from July 30 to August 15, using the Citizenship and Migration Board's e-service or by submitting an application in person at the Riga City Residence Declaration Office.

Voters can also vote at a polling station on which they are not registered. More info: https://www.cvk.lv/

To reduce the risk of spreading the Covid-19 virus infection, voters will have to keep a distance of two meters, disinfect their hands, and use a mouth and nose masks while in the polling station. Voters who do not have their own face masks will be given a disposable face mask at the polling station. Voters are also invited to use their own pens at the polling station, but if the voter does not have such an option, each voter will be provided with pen at the polling station. We draw the attention of the population that these conditions may be reviewed.
