Balva "Geo Rīga"

The Riga Municipality geospatial data portal GEO RIGA (georiga.lv) has received international recognition by receiving an award from Esri, the world's leading GIS software developer, for special achievements in the field of geographic information systems (GIS). It is one of the highest awards given in the GIS field worldwide.

The award is a special international recognition of the quality, strategic vision and technological excellence of GEO RIGA. The portal georiga.lv was singled out for its innovative use of GIS solutions, particularly in visualisation, public involvement, data processing or inter-sectoral cooperation.

Ms Diāna Korbe, Head of the Geomatics Department of the Riga Municipality City Development Department, is pleased with the award: "This award is a great recognition of our significant contribution to the application of GIS technologies. This award is a significant achievement not only for the City of Riga and its digital governance, but also for Latvia as a whole as an example of data-driven governance on a global scale. It is also a recognition of the team that develops the GEO RIGA portal and implements solutions that improve accessibility, transparency and user experience."

"The award is a great incentive to motivate the team and other colleagues to keep working and exploring the different possibilities for data maintenance and processing, from simple tools to AI tools and 3D technologies, to ensure fast and high quality data availability to our customers. It is a great pleasure that Riga geospatial data production involves high-level specialists and many municipal institutions, and geospatial data have become a reliable assistant in daily work tasks and decision-making," notes Ms Gunta Grūbe, Head of Geospatial Data Circulation Division, Geomatics Department, Riga Municipality City Development Department.

Esri, the world's leading GIS software developer, annually awards the prestigious "Special Achievement in GIS" award to organisations that stand out for their outstanding, innovative and socially relevant GIS solutions. The award, presented by Esri founder Jack Dangermond, is given to only about 1% of 100,000 Esri customers worldwide.

The winners will be announced and awarded at the Esri User Conference 2025, the world's largest conference for GIS professionals, taking place this year from 15-19 July in San Diego, California (USA). The conference brings together more than 15,000 participants from over 130 countries.
