Balva "Gada Rīdzinieks"

Riga City Council invites residents to submit candidates for the municipal "Riga Citizen of the Year 2022” award, which will be conferred for the 14th year. The winner will be announced on 18 November, the anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, when the Riga City Council will hold a ceremonial meeting.

A person of any nationality and ethnicity who has reached the age of 18 and who has contributed to the recognition of the name of Riga in Latvia and worldwide in the field of culture, science, sports, innovations or civic participation, drawing public attention to the capital of Latvia, through his/her talent and work, may be a candidate for the municipal award.

Everyone can apply candidates for the "Riga Citizen of the Year 2022" award until 8 November by filling in the questionnaire on the municipality's portal riga.lv.

The applications will be evaluated by a jury chaired by the Chairman of the Riga City Council Mārtiņš Staķis.

This year's jury will include:

  • Vjačeslavs Kaščejevs, physicist, Professor at the University of Latvia;
  • Eva Johansone, culture journalist at Latvian Television;
  • Lolita Tomsone, Director of Žanis Lipke Memorial;
  • Dāvis Siksnāns, co-founder of the JSC (AS) “Printful Latvia”;CEO of the LLC (SIA) “Draugiem Capital”;
  • Linda Medene, Chief of the Office of the Deputy Chairman of the Riga City Council Vilnis Ķirsis;
  • Ieva Lasmane, Head of the Tourism Department of the Riga municipal agency “Rīgas investīciju un tūrisma aģentūra” (Riga Investment and Tourism Agency);
  • Marija Krasovska, Project Manager for Neighbourhood Development at the Neighbourhood Population Centre of the Riga City Council.

So far, the award "Riga Citizen of the Year" has been conferred to well-known scientists, musicians, athletes, artists and other professionals.
