This weekend, on Sunday, 31 May, the “Toyota” Riga Cycling Marathon will take place in Riga, so significant traffic restrictions are expected in the city. The restrictions will gradually take effect starting at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 30 May, while on Sunday, traffic will be closed on several street sections in accordance with the cycling marathon route.
The local government urges drivers and residents to familiarise themselves with the changes to traffic patterns in advance and, where possible, plan alternative routes.
Cycling marathon races and routes
On Sunday, 31 May, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:25 p.m., Sports Criterium race will take place along the following route: 11. novembra krastmala, Akmens Bridge, Kuģu Street, Trijādības Street, Raņķa dambis, Balasta dambis, Vanšu Bridge, Pils laukums, Torņa Street, Pils laukums, Muitas Street,11. novembra krastmala (finish line).
The Women’s Race will take place from 12:40 p.m. to 1:10 p.m., the Family Race from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., and the Public Race from 2:40 p.m. to 3:55 p.m. These races will take place along the following route: 11. novembra krastmala, Ģenerāļa Radziņa krastmala, Krasta Street, over Dienvidu Bridge, Bauskas Street, Mūkusalas Street, Mūkusalas Street, Mūkusalas Street roundabout, Akmens Bridge tunnel, Kuģu Street, Trijādības Street, Raņķa dambis, Balasta dambis, Vanšu Bridge, Pils laukums, Torņa Street, Muitas Street and 11. novembra krastmalu (finish line).
Prohibitions on stopping and parking vehicles
From 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 30 May, until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, 31 May, vehicles will be prohibited from stopping or parking on both sides of 11. novembra krastmala, between Akmens Bridge and Muitas Street, as well as on the parallel street adjacent to 11. novembra krastmala on the Old Town side, between Bīskapa Street and Poļu Street. In addition, from 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 30 May, until 5:00 p.m. on 31 May, a prohibition on stopping and parking will be in effect on Balasta dambis and Kuģu Street on the Daugava side.
Traffic restrictions
From 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 30 May, until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, 31 May, vehicle traffic will be restricted on 11. novembra krastmala, from Akmens Bridge to Muitas Street, as well as on the parallel street on the Old Town side of 11. novembra krastmala, between Bīskapa Street and Poļu Street.
On Sunday, 31 May, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., traffic will be restricted on Akmens Bridge in the direction of Pārdaugava, as well as on Kuģu Street, Trijādības Street, Raņķa dambis, Balasta dambis, and Vanšu Bridge. Two-way traffic will be organised on the opposite lane of Raņķa Dambis, while public transport will be routed through the left lane of Vanšu Bridge.
From 12:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., traffic will be restricted on 11. novembra krastmala, Ģenerāļa Radziņa krastmala, and Krasta Street in the direction and section from Akmens Bridge to Dienvidu Bridge. In addition, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., traffic will be restricted on Dienvidu Bridge in the direction of Pārdaugava, from the Krasta Street overpass to Bauskas Street.
From 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., traffic will be restricted on Bauskas Street, from Dienvidu Bridge roundabout to Mūkusalas Street; on Mūkusalas Street, from Bauskas Street to Akmens Bridge; at the Mūkusalas Street roundabout under Salu Bridge; in the Akmens Bridge tunnel; on Kuģu Street, Trijādības Street, Raņķa dambis, Balasta dambis, and on Vanšu Bridge.
Additional traffic organisation changes
Traffic lights along 11. novembra krastmala will be turned off on the weekend of May 30 and 31. Meanwhile, the micromobility vehicle parking area on 11. novembra krastmala will be closed from 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 30 May, until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, 31 May.
Public transport routes and timetables are also subject to changes due to traffic restrictions. Further information about the changes will follow.
