Continuing the development of the network of mobility points in Riga, ten new mobility points near railway stations and major public transport hubs are planned to be established by the end of 2029. On Wednesday, 23 September, the Riga City Council reviewed and supported the implementation of ten new mobility point projects with a total planned cost of up to EUR 26.63 million.
The new mobility points will complement the already built network of 15 mobility points at Riga railway stations and stops. They are to be developed at the southern side of Riga Central Railway Station and Riga International Bus Station, as well as at the railway stops and stations ‘Daugmale’, ‘Depo’, ‘Āgenskalns’, ‘Janavārti’, ‘Imanta’, ‘Jugla’, ‘Torņakalns’ and ‘Zasulauks’.
The aim of the projects is to further develop a multimodal public transport network in Riga by strengthening the role of rail as the backbone of the public transport system and improving its connection with urban public transport, pedestrian, cycling and micro-mobility infrastructure.
Within the framework of the projects it is planned to build and improve pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, build bicycle parking lots and temporary parking lots, pedestrian crossings and improve traffic organization. It is also planned to rebuild and construct lighting, rainwater drainage and other necessary engineering communications, as well as to improve and green the public outdoor space.
The total planned cost of the 10 new mobility point projects is up to EUR 26.63 million, of which European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) financing is planned up to EUR 14.99 million, and Riga Municipality co-financing up to EUR 11.64 million.
In total, up to EUR 11.90 million is planned for the integration of the southern side of the Central Railway Station and Riga International Coach Terminal into the urban environment. In turn, up to €14.73 million will be earmarked for the development of the eight other railway stations and stop-shops.
