From 30 June, primary services provided by the Riga Municipality for Ukrainian civilians who have arrived in Latvia after the Russian invasion will be available at the Customer Service Points of the Riga Neighbourhood Residents’ Centre at 46 Eduarda Smiļģa Street and 31 Daugavpils Street. The Riga Support Centre for Ukrainian Civilians will no longer be located at 9 Pāles Street.
The flow of Ukrainian civilians arriving in Latvia after the Russian invasion has decreased and the existing building at 9 Pāles Street is no longer fully used. The new arrangement will provide the opportunity to receive services on both banks of the Daugava and closer to the centre.
Ukrainian civilians will still be able to receive the primary services they need, which the Riga Support Centre has provided to Ukrainian civilians so far. The main services include document verification, initial accommodation, registration and enrolment of children in schools and kindergartens.
Likewise, Ukrainian civilians can receive various services from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP), such as visas and residence permits, as well as social assistance after registering at the Riga Social Service.
From now on, Riga Public Transport Company “Rīgas satiksme” will provide its services to Ukrainian civilians at TC Origo, Stacijas Square 2.
The Riga Municipality provides support to various non-governmental organisations, which also offer their assistance to Ukrainian civilians, providing services such as food and basic material support packages, Latvian language courses, mentoring services, socio-economic inclusion activities, consultations and seminars.
The Riga Support Centre for Ukrainian Civilians began its work on 7 March 2022 at the Congress House, then moved to 1 Kaļķu Street, then operated for some time at 4 Amatu Street, and from the beginning of 2024 has been located at 9 Pāles Street.
Approximately 20,000 Ukrainian civilians currently live in Riga.
