Riga has been recognised as the most affordable city for short European trips in 2025.
According to the Post Office Travel Money study 2025 City Costs Barometer, published in the British newspaper Financial Times, Riga has become the most affordable destination for short trips in Europe. The Latvian capital is at the top of this list for the first time in a decade, offering travellers significantly lower costs than many other European cities.
The study analysed the 12 most popular tourism expenses, including dining, urban transportation, and accommodations, in 38 European cities. In Riga, a two-night stay in a three-star hotel, meals, drinks, and transport costs together amount to around £253, which is 15% less than last year. The Lithuanian capital Vilnius took second place with £254, while the Polish capital Warsaw was third with £255.
The study emphasises that Riga, along with other cities in the Baltics and neighbouring countries, dominates the list, offering excellent value for money. Riga offers tourists friendly prices and also a rich cultural and historical heritage, beautiful architecture, and a liveable urban environment, which attracts more and more travellers.
