On September 26 and 27, various events dedicated to Miķeļdiena will take place in Riga. I'm sorry, but I'm sorry. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the very heart of Old Riga, on Dome Square, we will traditionally celebrate the beautiful Latvian tradition of Miķeļi through the autumn harvest festival ‘Miķeļdiena Fair’.
The Miķeļdiena fair will be a real parade of autumn flavours and aromas - various autumn gifts have grown in Latvian countryside and gardens - berries, fruits and vegetables, a variety of delicacies made by hostesses and owners, including cheese, home-made bread, fresh honey and much more. The market will also delight with a wide range of ethnographic and modern applied art.
Throughout the day, visitors will be entertained by a stage programme featuring the Wind Orchestra ‘Fanfara’, the children’s vocal ensemble ‘Momo’, the folk dance ensemble ‘Dancītis’, the Orchestra ‘Rīga’, the children’s vocal ensemble ‘Knīpas un Knauķi’, the middle-generation folk dance group ‘Sidrabi’, the family folklore studio ‘Garataka’, the youth and middle-generation dance groups ‘Djotprieks’, the folklore group ‘Kokle’, the dance group ‘Marmale’, and the group ‘Lauku musicians’. The stage programme will be led by Dita Apsīte and Mārtiņš Jaunslavietis.
Miķeļdiena events in "Small Guild", Imanta and Mežaparks
On 27 September, from 12:00, the Miķeļdiena celebration will take place in the ‘Small Guild’ garden, hosted by the wives’ folklore group ‘Vilcenes’. We will honour the richness of the autumn harvest, sing folk songs, go for games, remind each other of Miķeļdiena beliefs and customs.
As of 11:00. From 12.00 to 15.00 Miķeļdiena celebration "Thank you Miķelis!" will take place at the cultural centre "Imanta". Miķeļdiena will be performed in songs, games and traditional activities: bread baking workshop, clay, blacksmith and butter caramel workshop, games and games for the youngest, Miķeļdiena market. The stage programme will feature the musical performance of the theatre ‘Zīļuks’ for children ‘Bremen Musicians’, Miķeļdiena rituals and games, as well as a concert programme by the contemporary folk music group ‘Laiksne’.
In the woods hall, pavilion and outdoor space of Mežaparks Great Open-air Stage from 11:00 to 17:00. There will be an event "Come together, sing, waiting for Miķeļdiena!" at 12:00. The event will include creative workshops, competitions, games and sports activities for children and a market. DJ VinK will take care of a joyful and cosy atmosphere. The soap-making workshop will delight visitors, as well as the Riga Dance Club, the dance groups Staro and Bitīte. In the end, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The concert of the post-folk band "Ogas" will take place at 15.00.
Entrance to all events is free of charge.
