On Tuesday, 6 December, 115 generators and 100 hot air blowers donated by Riga started their journey to Kyiv. The Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Olexandr Mishchenko, Riga Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis, and Rūta Dimanta, the head of the foundation Ziedot.lv which will take care of the delivery of the cargo to Ukraine, were present at the moment of departure of the cargo to Ukraine.

As a result of Russian air strikes, the people of Ukraine are forced to cope with the cold weather and darkness. Critical facilities such as hospitals, schools, and public heating points need electricity and heat. Riga City Council has responded to requests for assistance of Kyiv to donate generators and heating devices and has donated EUR 200,000 to purchase the necessary equipment. Kyiv will receive 115 generators and 100 hot air blowers for the donation allocated by Riga.

The specification of the equipment was agreed with the Municipality of Kyiv and the purchase was carried out by the charity foundation Ziedot.lv, based on a market survey carried out by specialists from the company “Rīgas satiksme”. Generators and hot air blowers were supplied by four companies, i.e. Tech Express SIA, Vallin SIA, Arsenall Industrial SIA, and Stokker SIA.
