On Saturday, 6 September, Riga residents and visitors are invited to this year's contemporary culture forum White Night. The forum program includes 34 projects and it will be held in the capital for the 20th time. The theme of the forum's round anniversary year is “Clear Springs”. This year, everyone is invited to find peace, knowledge, and energy from sources discovered, created, and interpreted by the artists and authors of the White Night's works.
The projects included in this year's White Night program are concentrated in the central part of the city, but overall, the events will also be accessible to residents of several other Riga neighbourhoods, including Avoti, Āgenskalns, Sarkandaugava, and elsewhere.
White Night 2025 will delight visitors with both popular local and international projects that have become favourites over the years, as well as a new program featuring local artists. Visitors will be able to see the environmental installation “Museum of the Moon” by the well-known British artist Luke Jerram, as well as the latest astronomical travelling artwork “Helios”. Culture on a national scale will be represented by projects that are well established in tradition, such as “Videography”, “Sound Forest”, “Survival Kit” and “kim? Contemporary Art Centre's” programs for the forum, as well as new contemporary art events.
The goal of the White Night is to motivate society to discover the diversity of contemporary culture and to spark a bigger interest in cultural events, displays and changes. The White Night program is designed for everyone, residents and visitors of all ages, nationalities and social backgrounds.
The White Night in Riga is part of the international European White Nights project that was launched by five European capitals – Brussels, Madrid, Paris, Riga, and Rome – and now joined by cities around the world. The idea behind the White Night is to make contemporary art more accessible to the public by engaging people in a wide range of art events one night a year. The contemporary culture forum White Night in Riga is organised by the Education, Culture, and Sports Department of Riga City Council in cooperation with cultural organisations, involving Latvian and foreign artists.
