The fact of the death of a person established within the administrative borders of the local government shall be notified to one of the municipality's Divisions of the Nightlists not later than within six working days from the time when the death occurred or the deceased was found. The Family List Division shall register the death records in the death register and issue a death certificate. This service may be received in any division of the family lists in Latvia regardless of the declared place of residence.

Process description

  1. Service requests
    No later than six working days from the time when the death or the deceased was found, any section of the Riga family lists shall be notified. Competent officials of the family list department shall register the death records and issue a death certificate.
    The applicant must notify any division of the family lists of the fact of death in situ.
    Receipt of services documents required:
    1) a medical certificate issued by a medical treatment institution or a medical practitioner regarding the cause of death;
    2) a personal identification document of the applicant;
    3) a court judgment regarding the determination of the fact of death or the announcement of a person regarding a deceased certified true copy;
    4) documents certifying the deceased's identity (if available).

  2. Receipt of services
    The service shall be received in person in the correspondence department.
