The Social Service of Riga grants a benefit to the guardian or temporary guardian for the fulfilment of the duties of guardian. For a guardian caring for a child whose one or both parents are dead, the amount of the allowance shall be EUR 50 per month. For a guardian who is caring for two (or more) children under custody, the amount of the allowance shall be EUR 60 per month for the second and every future child under custody.

Process description

  1. Service requests
    A guardian may claim a benefit:
    1. Submitting an application to the Orphan's Court of Riga at the same time as the receipt of a decision regarding custody;
    2. Addressing an application at Riga Social Service.
    The guardian shall indicate the following information in the application: the name, surname, personal identity number of the guardian, address of the declared place of residence, e-mail address (if any), mobile phone number, account number of the credit institution or postal settlement system, name, surname, personal identity number of the child (s) in custody, address of the declared place of residence.

  2. Receipt of services
    The decision regarding the granting of the allowance or the refusal to grant the benefit shall be taken by the Riga Social Service. If the Riga Social Service has taken a decision to grant the benefit, it shall be granted from the date of submission of the guardian's application.
    The benefit is paid by transferring it to the account specified by the guardian.
