The President of the Bremen Parliament with a delegation will visit Riga. This is the first official visit of the President of the Bremen Parliament to Riga, during which, in addition to the official meetings, a visit to the innovation quarter VEFRESH, a visit to the House of the Blackheads and a visit to the Bikernieki Memorial will take place.
On 14th of July, at 12.00 in the territory of the Riga Ghetto and Latvian Holocaust Museum, a gift from the people of Bremen to Riga will be unveiled - a memorial stone dedicated to the memory of the Jews killed in the territory of Latvia during the Second World War.
This year, the friendship between Riga and Bremen celebrates 35 years, because the friendship agreement was signed as far back as February 1985. Cooperation is governed by a renewed agreement signed on 22nd of April 1992. In recent years, close co-operation with the city of Bremen has taken place in the social, educational, sports, cultural and security fields, and the city of Riga is grateful to the People's Association for the Maintenance of German War Graves for war grave maintenance in Riga and Latvia.
