After the successful renovation of the Riga Sports Arena, Riga Sports School “Arkādija” has received a certificate from the World Athletics Federation (World Athletics) as proof of infrastructure compliance for certain athletics disciplines.
The World Athletics Federation certificate means that the results achieved in the relevant disciplines in the Riga Sports Arena - 50 m and 60 m sprint, long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault - are internationally recognized if the competition is included in the World Athletics Federation competition calendar.
The obtained certificate will give the opportunity to organize high-ranking international competitions at the Riga Sports Arena, for athletes to gain important bonus points in the world ranking right here in Riga, as well as to use the achieved results for the implementation of regulations for participation in the European and World Championships.
The Riga Sports Arena is an important training venue for sports enthusiasts of different ages, as well as professional athletes. Almost 500 athletes visit the Riga Sports Arena every day, not only from Riga, but also from other Latvian cities - Mārupe, Ādaži, Jurmala and Lielvārde, while it is also used by the Latvian National Armed Forces, the prison Administration, Riga Technical University, the University of Latvia, as well as sports veterans and athletes.
The Riga National Sports Arena was commissioned in 1965 and was one of the most modern sports buildings in the Baltics at the time.
