From 14 to 17 August, Riga will host a delegation from the twin city of Bremen, represented by Dr. Alexandra Tacke and Ralf Perplies, Director of the Bremer Volkshochschule (Bremen Adult Education Centre). The visit aims to strengthen cooperation between the two cities in the fields of education and culture, as well as to share experiences in digitisation and adult education.
The delegation met with the Chair of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee of Riga City Council, Laima Geikina, and representatives of the Education, Culture and Sports Department. The education programme includes a visit to J. G. Herder’s Riga Grīziņkalns Secondary School and Riga State German Grammar School to get acquainted with the digitisation solutions implemented in Riga schools, as well as to discuss possible support for further training and qualification development of German language teachers. A meeting with representatives of the Goethe-Institut in Riga is also planned to discuss opportunities for the development of adult education.
In the field of culture, the representatives from Bremen will visit Riga’s art space, discuss joint-project opportunities and explore Riga’s creative quarters to facilitate the sharing of ideas and experience with cultural organisations.
During their visit, the Bremen guests will likewise participate in Riga’s birthday celebrations to meet street artists from the Bremen group Stelzen-Art, who will entertain the visitors with their creative performance.
Riga and Bremen have maintained mutual relations as twin cities for forty years, and this visit is another step in strengthening the friendly and creative ties between the two cities.
