Vice Mayor of Riga is elected by the Riga City Council from among the councillors. This is a remunerated position. There is one Vice Mayor subordinated to the Mayor of Riga.
Vice Mayor of Riga:
• performs the duties of the Mayor of Riga during his absence or on his behalf, as well as in other cases stipulated by the Republic of Latvia Law on Local Governments;
• performs the tasks assigned to him by the Council’s decisions;
• during the absence of the Mayor of Riga, uses the seal of the Riga City Council bearing the big coat of arms of the Riga City;
• performs other tasks and functions assigned to him by the Council’s decisions.
