Education, Culture and Sports Committee
The competence of Education, Culture and Sports Comittee includes:
- development and implementation of perspective and annual educational, sports and society integration development programmes;
- development of proposals on organization of the network of Riga educational institutions and providing for the operation of the work of educational establishments, as well as introduction of modern information Technologies in the learning process;
- cultural policy;
- cultural environment;
- development of cultural establishments, musical and art schools and libraries.
Education, Culture and Sports Committee :
- coordinates the implementation of the youth policy in Riga;
- supervises the registration of the children of school age in Riga;
- controls the cooperation of Education, Youth and Sports Department of Riga City Council with the City Development Department of Riga City Council, Property Department of Riga City Council and Rigas Pisetbuvnieks construction company, thus facilitating the construction and renovation of education, sports and leisure projects;
- facilitates the development of private education, sports and leisure institutions;
- cooperates with Riga Custody Court
- cooperates with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Justice and its subordinate institutions, the State Culture Capital Foundation, Riga Latvian Society, creative alliances and minorities’ associations.
Pursuant to decision No 6 of Riga City Council of July 7, 2009, the number of councillors working on the Education, Culture and Sports Committee may not exceed 16.
The sessions of the Committee take place on Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. in room No 511.
