History
Riga City Registry Office was established on May 1, 1921.
The Registry office on the left bank of the River Daugava began operation in 1948. Its name has changed several times over the years. It was called Red Army, Lenin’s and Leningrad, Registry Office. Now its name is Kurzeme suburbs Registry Office. It is situated in Riga, Slokas Iela 8, Telephone +371 67612673.
In 1984 the Proletarian District Registry Office was established. Now it is called Vidzeme suburbs Registry Office, situated in Riga, Zemgaļu iela 1, telephone +371 67553450.
In 1985 the Moscow District Registry Office was established. Now it is called Latgale Suburbs Registry Office, situated in Riga, Aglonas iela 4b, telephone +371 67257149.
In 1986 the October District Registry Office was established. Now it is called Northern District Registry Office, situated in Riga, Rūpniecības iela 21, telephone +371 67326671.
Riga City Registry Office stores the registers of civil status drafted at all registry offices of Riga city suburbs, meaning that the archive of Riga City Registry Office keeps all archives of births, marriages, deaths, determining paternity, adoptions, name, surname, father’s name registers and divorces performed in the city of Riga since 1921, as well as the archive of Riga County Registry Office (until 1993).
